Scholarship

PURPOSE

The Houston GPA Midstream provides scholarships each year to support college students who are interested in pursuing a career in the Midstream Industry. These scholarships are awarded to students who will positively impact the industry and Houston market by furthering the future of the midstream industry and gas processing. Funding for each year’s recipients is made possible by company sponsorships, donations, and fundraisers throughout the year such as the annual golf tournaments and sporting clay event. We are greatly appreciative of our generous sponsors and members who help make this scholarship program possible!

COMMITTEE COMPOSITION

Committee membership will include the following – all of which hold current positions as a Director of HGPA:

A Chairperson
An Alternate Chairperson
The remainder of the committee is made up of other active HGPA Members.

COMMITTEE OBJECTIVES

HGPA has created a dedicated Scholarship Committee whose primary purpose is to:

  • Raise student awareness of HGPA Scholarship Program on respective campuses.
  • Raise awareness of the gas processing industry awareness in the engineering faculty & student populations at schools.
  • Provide secondary benefits, such as networking between GPA members, etc.
  • Solicit student applications for scholarship award consideration
  • Review applications and essays while providing a candidate recommendation list to the Board.
  • Candidates will be awarded scholarships based on criteria including, but not limited
    to, quality of application, industry involvement, declared major, experience, GPA, etc.
  • Inform successful candidates of the award and invite them to the HGPA Regional Conference for recognition
  • Scholarship checks will be sent directly to the student’s registered University before the following semester

SUBMISSION SCHEDULE/REQUIREMENTS

The Houston Gas Processors Midstream Association promotes regional growth within our industry by awarding financial support through our scholarship program to students from the Greater Houston area who are interested in pursuing a career in the midstream oil and gas industry. For the 2024 Spring academic school year, the Houston Chapter plans to award $25,000+ in scholarships with individual award amounts varying based upon the total number of scholarship recipients selected.

The Scholarship Committee will evaluate applications based on merit and the applicant’s desire to purse a career in the midstream industry. We are encouraging applicants to note any education, personal interests, volunteer experience, family relationships in the industry, extracurricular activities, or internships related to the energy industry.

In order to meet the scholarship criteria, the student must:

  • Currently be enrolled as a full-time student (at least 12 credit hours) and entering at least the second year of a two-year or four-year undergraduate degree program in the 2023/2024 school year, or entering a professional trade school
  • Be pursuing a degree in engineering, construction management, supply-chain management, finance, business, engineering technology, or an applicable trade degree such as welding or petroleum technology
  • Be from the Greater Gulf Coast Region
  • Have completed 12 credit hours or more at the time of the application
  • Maintain a 2.8 GPA or greater (4.0 scale)
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in joining the oil and natural gas midstream industry
  • Be a US Citizen
  • Complete an online application
  • Submit a 1,000 (maximum) word essay

Scholarship applications for the 2024 spring school year must be submitted prior to April 17, 2024. The Houston GPA Midstream Scholarship Committee will review the applications and award by end of May 2024. Recipients of a scholarship will be extended an invite to an HGPA luncheon for networking and recognition.
