GIVING BACK
Houston GPA Midstream Chapter (HGPA) provides opportunities throughout the year for members to support the communities in which they live. Each community outreach event gives members a chance to work together and meet & mingle with friends and peers from the local Oil & Gas industry.
HISD STEM PROGRAM
HGPA has been a long time supporter of HISD’s STEM Program and made a $3,000 donation, November 2020. The HISD Foundation is dedicated to the support of the Houston Independent School District and its mission of providing every student with a consistently rigorous education in a safe environment. Established in 1994, the HISD Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that is governed by a volunteer board of directors that includes local business, industry, and community leaders.
2020 TOYS FOR TOTS
For the 2020 year, HGPA’s Community Outreach Program partnered with their Annual Year-End Golf Event to collect toys and raise money for the Toys for Tots organization. HGPA’s annual toy drive gives members the opportunity to contribute new toys, books, presents and cash or card donations. The program allows communities to play an active role in the development of one of our community’s most valuable resources – our children. Presently, the Marine Toys for Tots Program distributes an average of 18 million toys to 7 million less fortunate children annually. Learn more: https://www.toysfortots.org/
KIDS MEALS
HGPA donated $2,250 and packed over 2,000 lunches to help support ending childhood hunger in Houston. The sad fact is 1 in 4 Houston children lives “food insecure”. Local organizations such as “Kids Meals Inc.” work daily to combat that reality and in doing so are on-track to deliver more than 1.2 MILLION meals directly into the hands of hungry children in 2020. But worthy organizations such as theirs can’t do it alone! Every day in our community there are 88,740 children who live unsure of their next meal. Join HGPA’s community outreach team in supporting local charities determined to end childhood hunger in Houston. Learn more: https://kidsmealsinc.org/
CAMP HOPE
HGPA contributed to helping positively impact the Veterans in our community by making a donation of $1,000 to Camp Hope. The Mission of the PTSD Foundation of America is to bring hope and healing to Combat Veterans and their families suffering from the effects of combat-related Post Traumatic Stress. We take a collaborative approach to raising awareness of the increasing needs of the military community by working with government agencies, service organizations, churches, and private sector businesses to combine resources.
FIRST RESPONDERS BBQ
Planning for the 2021 Charity Cook-Off is well underway! Houston GPA members, member companies, and other local oil & gas professionals will gather in downtown Houston, as the cook-off teams fire up their BBQ smokers, and go head-to-head to raise money for our city’s first responders. The HGPA Community Outreach Committee hopes to raise $10,000 or more in next year’s inaugural event, which will then be donated to the Houston Police Department & the Houston Fire Department. HGPA Midstream is grateful for the opportunity to say “thank you” to all those who serve and hopes to do so for many years to come.
MIRDADIAN SCHOLARSHIP
David was a valuable member of the HGPA for many decades and spent the past 10 years on the board of directors. He was best known for his passion in hosting the HGPA Clay shoot, which if any of you have ever attended, you would know how much his heart and passion was poured into the event. His work and dedication to the clay shoot provided tens of thousands of dollars to the scholarship fund over the years. To honor David’s memory and continue his mission of promoting education, we have created the David Mirdadian Scholarship Fund.
2019 TOYS FOR TOTS
Houston GPA partners with the West University Fire Department and the United States Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots program to help less fortunate children experience the joy of Christmas. HGPA’s annual toy drive gives members the opportunity to contribute new toys, books, presents and cash or card donations at a winter event donation station. The program allows communities to play an active role in the development of one of our community’s most valuable resources – our children. Presently, the Marine Toys for Tots Program distributes an average of 18 million toys to 7 million less fortunate children annually. Learn more: https://www.toysfortots.org/
HURRICANE RELIEF
In 2017 the Houston GPA Board voted unanimously to take swift action by making a $10,000 donation to the American Red Cross to help support the Harvey disaster relief efforts and to give some assistance to our fellow Houstonians who have been hit the hardest. This donation was made possible with the help and support of our sponsors and our members.
ROBOTICS TEAM
HGPA believes in supporting local youth’s engineering aspirations by partnering with the Jersey Voltage program. Jersey Voltage aims to provide an active, engaging environment that fosters creativity, promotes innovation and STEMulates students through robotics. By dreaming, scheming and building together, we broaden students’ horizons and jump-start their careers, all while having the “hardest fun” of our lives. We challenge ourselves to work smarter, work harder and set the pace in the engineering world. Get involved! The Jersey Voltage Robotics Team (and the robotics competition) are always looking for engineers to help mentor and even judges, etc. for the regional, state and world championships.
