AGENDA
In this session, we will be covering the fundamentals of control valves and their usage in common midstream applications.
This will include but will not be limited to:
- Control loop basics
- Rotary & sliding stem valves
- Actuation & instrumentation
- Sizing & selection practices
- Severe service challenges
We will also be covering the fundamentals of over pressure protection using pressure reducing regulators. Specifically, we will focus on wide-open upstream and downstream solutions as well as working monitor solutions.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Nolan Vollstedt
Nolan is a control valve technical specialist with Emerson’s flow controls business. Nolan has worked for Emerson for 6 years. During the first three years of his career at Emerson, he was dedicated to serving Emerson Impact Partners and customers in the metals and mining industry, and he now primarily supports opportunities in the upstream and midstream oil and gas sector. Mr. Vollstedt holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Iowa State University.

Louis Barron
Louis is the midstream product manager for Emerson’s pressure management business unit. Louis has worked for Emerson for 5 years. In his first three years, he worked as a technical instructor providing technicians with regulator basic training and hands-on regulator training. Now, as a product manager, he supports customers by leveraging his technical knowledge within Emerson’s cross-functional teams to deliver customer support around the globe.
