Economic and Technical Basis for Gas Processing

This half-day training, now presented directly by the HGPA with reduced pricing, is the first of four break-out sessions of the popular, "Overview of Gas Processing" held last November.  This half-day session surveys current trends in natural gas delivery & production and examines the economic and technical basis for profitable gas conditioning and processing.  This interactive training includes information on:

  • Natural Gas Sources - Conventional, Shale & Tight Gas, etc.
  • Gas Characteristics - Lean, Rich, Associated, etc. 
  • Gas Contaminants - Carbon Dioxide, Nitrogen, etc. 
  • Gas Specifications - Gathering System, Plant and Pipeline 
  • Gas Behavior - Process selection and operating conditions 
  • Plant Economics - Project planning and decision drivers
  • Ethane Recovery and Ethane Rejection decisions

As a training class wrap up, a broad survey of the gas processing technologies that are currently in use will be covered as an introduction to the three remaining morning training sessions (February, March and May, 2019).

Information about the trainer Ralph Neumann: 

MR. RALPH NEUMANN is a highly respected, member of our industry who has gained experience in Oil and Gas Production, Natural Gas Processing, Specialty Fractionation and Pipelines & Gathering Systems throughout his extensive career.  While presently an active industry consultant, his prior responsibilities have included his involvement in the implementation of several shale gas and tight gas facility development projects.  His extensive experience includes the development of conceptual and detailed designs, multi-discipline project supervision, economic feasibility studies and a variety of field services including pre-commissioning, startup, training and troubleshooting.  He has also been responsible for project development, manager of engineering (including safety and environmental) and management of field operations for a large midstream natural gas processing company.  He has authored and presented technical papers to the AIChE - dynamic simulation, the GPA Midstream Association (formerly the Gas Processors Association) - nitrogen rejection facilities, gas plant operations management, gas and NGL treating and the Laurance Reid Gas Conditioning Conference - dehydration and amine treating.  Mr. Neumann received his baccalaureate and master's degrees in Chemical Engineering from Rice University in Houston, Texas.
