Houston GPA Midstream is hosting a Virtual Training session led by Holloman Corporation, it will take place Wednesday, June 30th from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m (CST).  The featured speaker Edmund Duban, Manager of Engineered Products for Holloman Corporation, will discuss the Use of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) to Detect Slug Catcher Malperformance, with Case Study.

Training Topic: The Use of CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) to Detect Slug Catcher Malperformance, with Case Study

Summary: A slug catcher is a key piece of static equipment that separates and stores incoming pipeline liquids.  Many gas processing plants suffer from slug catchers which perform inadequately.  CFD modeling software is an ideal tool for overcoming this industry challenge, as it can test a slug catcher’s design for malperformance during the project’s engineering phase.  CFD can also be used to debottleneck existing slug catcher systems with known performance issues.

This technical presentation will provide insight into:

1. An overview of the types of slug catchers, and their key performance areas.
2. Estimating feed rates during slugging conditions (Holloman Technical Bulletin No. 1901).
3. Immediate and long-term effects of slug catcher malperformance.
4. A CFD introduction and visualization guide.
5. Root cause groupings of slug catcher malperformance, with examples.
6. A slug catcher debottlenecking project case study.

Training Cost: FREE
